Ask David: What is the difference between Copy and Clone in the NorthstarMLS Add/Edit listing input system?

Time is money. Getting a job done efficiently and accurately is beneficial, especially in the Real Estate industry.

The NorthstarMLS Add/Edit listing input system has two functions to expedite the listing input process and help you promptly get your listings to market. With editing access, you can use the Copy and Clone buttons in Add/Edit.

Copy a Listing

Subscribers who have permission to add listings in Add/Edit can use the Copy button. Copying a listing pulls most of the data from an existing listing into a new listing with a new MLS listing number.

Any listing (regardless of listing agent/brokerage) in any status can be copied. This is often done when an agent gets a listing for a property that has been recently sold and wants to save time by working off the previous listing to create a new one. Please remember if a listing is copied, the listing agent and brokerage are responsible for verifying all copied information is correct.

Clone a Listing

Subscribers with permission to add listings in Add/Edit can use the Clone button to clone their own listings.

Cloning a listing pulls most of the data input on your own existing listing (any status) into a new listing with a new MLS listing number. In addition to the listing data, media (photos, supplements, virtual tours) and any future scheduled open houses will also be brought forward.

Only listings that are your own can be cloned due to the media rights and scheduled open houses. Please remember if a listing is cloned, the listing agent and brokerage are responsible for verifying that all information remains correct.
