Municipality

Enter the legal municipality in this field.  This may be different than the postal city and should reflect the legal location of the property.  There is an approved exception for a property that is located in a Township.  If the municipality is a township, you have the option to select the Postal City for the Municipality field (instead of the Township). This option is available only for those properties located in a Township.

There are over 700 Townships in Minnesota. Most of them are not known by the public, even in the areas around the Townships. They are more commonly grouped with the nearest town/city which is usually also the mailing address. The Township name will continue to be reflected on the Tax record (available by clicking the PID Number).

It is important to know the legal location of the property– City or Township. Realist pulls the Municipality from the County. When entering a listing, the PID is matched with the legal Municipality (City or Township). Matrix will default to the Municipality that is matched with the PID from tax record.

Note – The Postal City could have more than one City or Township under it, therefore it may not be the legal location of the property.
