Enabling NorthstarMLS to work with Windows XP after installation of XP Service Pack 2
Download in PDF format for Print (pdf)
Microsoft has released Service Pack 2 for their Windows XP Software. It contains a number of security enhancements, including the ability to block pop-up windows when browsing the Internet. While this is helpful for blocking advertisements and other nuisance pop-ups, some Web sites legitimately use pop-up windows for their functionality. NorthstarMLS is one of these sites. When you update your Windows XP operating system with Service Pack 2, it will automatically disable all pop-ups. Described below are a few simple steps that you can take to re-enable pop-ups (only for NorthstarMLS) so that it will function properly.
After installing the Service Pack, you may see the following pop-up box when you go to NorthstarMLS Matrix:

Click the “OK” button to clear the message box. Whether you see this message or not, follow the steps below after installing the Service Pack:
- From your Web browser menu, select Tools>>Internet Options…
- In the pop-up box, click the “Privacy” tab, then click the “Settings…” button in the Pop-up blocker section.
- Type northstarmls.com in the Address Box and click the “Add” button (do NOT type in "www". Just type northstarmls.com).
- “Northstarmls.com” is now listed in your Web browser as a site from which you will allow pop-up windows. Click the “Close” button, then the “OK” button to finish.
